The RCN has warned of “potentially disastrous consequences for patient care” from the NHS reforms and budget squeeze. Mr Lansley told Channel 4 News that “there has been no reduction in clinical staff and as far as nurses are concerned we’re within 1 per cent of the (staffing) figure two years ago.” Every penny saved in one area of the NHS would, he insisted, be reinvested in another part of the service.
