We thought it would be intriguing to see what activists make of the Prime Minister’s best-known adviser. Especially since not very many of them will have glimpsed him on TV, let alone seen him in person.
The result is a resounding vote of confidence.
Half those polled agree that he is an “undoubted asset”. Another third like what they hear (but have reservations about advisers usurping the role of Ministers.
Only one in ten are hostile and fewer that than opposed outright to his staying in post.
Whatever else may be said of Cummings, he is clearly a winner, and Party members want to keep hold of him now that there is a Conservative Government in place with a big majority.
