Party Chairman Caroline Spelman issued this statement earlier today:

"I am delighted to announce that the Conservative Party will be bringing its Spring Conference to Cheltenham on the last weekend in April 2009. The facilities at the Centaur Centre, the accessibility of Cheltenham and the town’s enduring popularity made Cheltenham the strongest contender for Spring Conference 09. At a time when businesses throughout the country are fighting to meet the challenges of the economic situation I very much hope our Spring Conference will help stimulate the local economy.”

The Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Cheltenham, Mark Coote, added:

"This is great news for the people of Cheltenham. The town is a vibrant, attractive and welcoming place and well suited to hosting an event such as this.  The Conservative Party will be welcomed warmly and it’s great for the local economy."

Local media welcomed the news as a £1m boost for Cheltenham.

Cheltenham has a projected LibDem majority of just 515.  You can be sure Mark will be expecting us to deliver some leaflets next April!
