Going on the attack on crime gave the Conservatives some of the best headlines they’ve had in a long time, and no wonder.

Today’s MORI poll for the Sun (click graphic to enlarge) continues the trend of law and order coming out as the most important issue for voters, and again the next biggest issue is shown to be race relations
and immigration. Also see the recent ConservativeHome editorial on fighting the election on crime, and Jeff Randall’s piece on the rise in the violent crime.

The poll gives Labour a 5% lead over the Conservatives, the same margin as three weeks ago but with higher shares due to a drop in the high percentage of "others". Brown’s personal ratings are at 43%, 8% ahead of the government in general and 14% ahead of Cameron.
