An ICM/ DODS polling survey of all MPs for The House Magazine finds that 61% think that they are paid too little. The chart above – the numbers coloured according to traditional party identification – show that Tory MPs are least satisfied with their remuneration. 79% of Tory MPs think they are paid too little compared to just 52% of Labour MPs (many more of whom probably saw their pay rise when they entered the Commons).
2% of MPs thought their current £60,675pa was too much. 34% thought it about right.
The most keen for a higher salary were new MPs. 83% of the 2005 intake wanted more pay.
