Leaked emails reveal a pattern whereby hospitals are more likely to be protected from closure if they are situated in marginal seats.  Andrew Lansley, Shadow Health Secretary, tells The Times that it is notable that Hinchingbrooke hospital – “which happens to be in one of the two safest Conservative seats in the country” – was the hospital at the top of the list for closure. Great work by Andrew Lansley in exposing how Labour appear to be putting politics before medical priorities in hospital closure decisions.

9am footnote:
Leaks of this kind might become more common as simultaneously (1) civil servants despair of New Labour’s tactics and (2) the likelihood of a change in government rises.
