In half an hour, the TaxPayers’ Alliance will be liveblogging the 2006 Annual Budget.
As a foretaste of what we expect and what to look out for:
This may well turn out to be Gordon Brown’s last Budget, but it will be his first chance to go head to head against David Cameron. We expect he will use this opportunity to define the choice and debate between them in the way most advantageous to himself.
In the last nine years political gamblers have enjoyed placing bets on the number of times the Chancellor will use such key Brown terms as ‘prudence’ and ‘stability’. We think that in this Budget we are more likely to hear words such as ‘challenge’ and ‘record’, as Brown uses his own record and the economic challenges ahead as the basis for his case for being the next Prime Minister.
