My own view (and that of Dan Hannan) is that the autumn represents Gordon Brown’s best chance of winning an historic fourth term for Labour. Simon Heffer, writing today, adds to this view by highlighting the likelihood of mounting economic woes by next spring. Two new opinion polls will give Mr Brown’s autumn ambitions a […]
Last night we posted about a Populus survey for The Times which put Labour 6% ahead. Another survey by Communicate Research – for The Independent – puts the Labour lead at a more modest 3%. Labour is on 37% (up 5% on last month). The Conservatives are down 3% to 34%. The LibDems are on […]
A Populus survey of 1,511 people for tomorrow’s Times gives Gordon Brown a 39% to 33% advantage over David Cameron’s Conservatives. The 6% lead is smaller than the 9% lead identified by YouGov last Friday but 3% bigger than last month’s Populus survey. On a scale of 0 to 10 Populus asked for voters’ assessment […]
A YouGov survey for tomorrow’s Daily Telegraph gives Labour a 9% lead. The Conservatives are down to 32%; 9% behind Labour on 41%. The LibDems are on 16%. Gordon Brown has an 18% lead over David Cameron when it comes to who voters think will make best Prime Minister. More later… Midnight: Only 27% believe […]
More details of the ICM survey for The Guardian can be read here. ICM also finds that: "Among Conservative voters, 42% say they like the party but dislike Mr Cameron. Only 3% answer the other way around. Just over half (52%) say they like both party and leader."
Yesterday we published the headline 6% Labour lead suggested by Ipsos-MORI. Ipsos-MORI have just published some more detail of their survey of 954 adults. Answers to Questions 7 and 8 show that ‘race relations and immigration’ remains the most important issue for 23% of respondents. The same percentage agree that defence, foreign affairs and international […]
Yesterday evening we reported a YouGov survey that appeared to confirm last Sunday’s ICM poll and a 7% Labour lead. Another poll in The Observer – by Ipsos-MORI – puts Labour 6% ahead. The Observer reports that Brown will make other announcements later this week – including a new counter-terrorism strategy.
A YouGov poll for the Sunday Times puts Labour on 40%, the Conservatives 33% and the LibDems 15%. An ICM poll last weekend also put Labour ahead by 7%. A majority of respondents to this poll, 54%, said Brown should call an election within a few months. Only 32% said he shouldn’t. The 1700 respondents […]
The Press Association is reporting an ICM poll for tomorrow’s News of the World that gives Labour a 35% to 28% lead over the Conservatives. And just to underline that these headline percentages look very low, the LibDems are down on just 13%. 53% of respondents told ICM that Gordon Brown was best equipped to […]
Two Saturdays ago I had to report that Labour had moved ahead by 3% and that was before the Brown honeymoon. I have better news for you tonight. Ten days into the Brown honeymoon and an ICM survey for tomorrow’s Sunday Mirror puts Labour just 2% ahead. By 37% to 35% there is no sign […]
More soon on this Populus/ Times opinion poll. 10.25pm: Another opinion poll suggests the ‘Brown bounce’ continues but it is more modest than many Tory strategists feared. Populus put Brown’s Labour Party ahead by 3%. The fieldwork was carried out from 29th June to 1st July. 77% regard Gordon Brown as strong compared to 43% […]
As warned yesterday evening, two opinion polls this morning will put a smile on Gordon Brown’s face. An ICM poll for The Guardian* gives Labour a 4% lead and YouGov for The Daily Telegraph* puts the Labour lead at 3%. I cannot find any below-the-headline-detail within The Guardian coverage but there is additional information from […]
8pm update: The YouGov/ Telegraph survey gives Labour a 38% to 35% advantage and Brown a 12% advantage over Cameron on best Prime Minister. An ICM survey for tomorrow’s Guardian will put the Labour Party four points ahead (39% to 35%) and there’ll be a YouGov poll for The Telegraph that is also expected to […]
Every Conservative with a LibDem MP can take comfort from the news that Ming’s party are down to just 12% in a new YouGov survey for Sky News. The Conservatives are on 37% (the same percentage as in three consecutive polls) and Labour 1% behind on 36%. Only 14% of voters thought that being the […]
You can be sure that this poll suggesting the Tories enjoy a 5% lead will receive a lot less attention than the weekend’s Ipsos-MORI poll that gave Labour a 3% lead. Today’s Communicate Research survey for The Independent gives the Conservatives a 37% to 32% advantage. The one key thing that the MORI and Communicate […]
