An Ipsos Mori survey for The Sun gives the Tories a 10% lead. The Conservatives are steady on 42% and Labour is down 3% to 32%. Other findings show that the Tory leader still has work to do. Brown beats Cameron by 45% to 27% when it comes to who would be best in a […]
The headline figures in tomorrow’s Populus poll for The Times point to a narrower Tory lead but the better news is the continuing slide of the ‘Brown brand’: "A Populus poll for The Times, the first of the new year, shows that David Cameron has overtaken Mr Brown in being seen to have what it […]
These figures come in today’s Sunday Times and show a narrower Conservative lead than the YouGov survey published on the Friday before Christmas. We should probably be a little sceptical about polls taken over the Christmas period.
Today’s ComRes survey for The Independent is much more consistent with Friday’s YouGov survey for The Telegraph than Saturday’s ICM poll for The Guardian. ComRes gives the Conservatives a 41% to 30% lead over Labour with the LibDems on 16%. The ConservativeHome graphic will be added a little later. There are some other encouraging numbers […]
A little good news for Gordon Brown at last. An ICM survey for tomorrow’s Guardian puts the Tory lead at just 5%. The poll compares with an ICM poll at the very beginning of the month putting the Tories 11% clear and today’s YouGov survey giving the Conservatives a 12% lead. Cameron has a 34% […]
The Tories have a 12% lead over Labour in the latest YouGov poll, this time for The Telegraph. We’ve added Nick Clegg to the poll graphic although much of YouGov’s survey was conducted before his narrow victory had been confirmed. The LibDems would have benefited from their leadership election ‘being in the news’, however, throughout […]
45%. 45%. 45%! It may not last but it’s good to see that voter antipathy to the Conservative brand is in serious retreat. YouGov also finds that Gordon Brown’s approval rating has slumped to -26%. It was -16% last month. 8.45am, 16 December: The Sunday Times has some additional interesting data from its YouGov poll: […]
In our third look at Ipsos-MORI’s review of the year these two graphs are a reminder to David Cameron that he must address a broad range of issues if he is to get closer to that 45% target level of support (this week’s Economist suggests what he still needs to do). Never again must the […]
Yesterday evening we began our look at Ipsos-MORI’s review of the year with two charts that showed Gordon Brown suffering a Major-like decline in popularity and David Cameron defying the trajectories of his predecessors as Tory leaders. The top two charts from Ipsos-MORI’s review of the year point to the ‘fundamentals’ that are running against […]
Ben Page of Ipsos-MORI has kindly sent me his review of the polling year. I’ll highlight some more of the data tomorrow but as a good night taster… here are two graphs that show the very different trajectories for Gordon Brown and David Cameron:
The Ipsos-MORI survey is published here. The headline figure shows the Tories 7% ahead but more interesting is the finding that 55% of voters expect the economy to deteriorate over the next year. 31% think it will stay the same. Just 9% think it will get better. This new anxiety explains why the Conservatives are […]
Times: "Labour is down by 16 points to 35 per cent on being the best to manage the economy. The Tories are at 34 per cent, up six points in three months. The Tories have overtaken Labour on getting the balance right between taxes and public spending, at 31 to 27 per cent, after a […]
An ICM survey for Newsnight suggests that twice as many voters see Gordon Brown as sleazy (57%) as see David Cameron as sleazy (28%). 44% agree with Mr Cameron’s PMQs’ attack that Mr Brown is not "cut out for the job". Unfortunately only 41% think the Conservative leader passes his own test. 43% think Mr […]
The Tories are back over 40% in the latest ConservativeHome Poll of Polls. All thanks to an ICM survey for tomorrow’s News of the World (not yet online). The Tories are up 4% to 41% (compared to the most recent ICM poll) and Labour are down one point to 30% and the LibDems have fallen […]
Another opinion poll confirms the weakening of Brown’s position. I’ve now returned to the UK and feeling a bit jet-lagged but will try and get the service back up to normal tomorrow. In the meantime keep visiting Guido. He’s been at his very best in the last week. His latest scoop should mean the end […]
