While I am very sensitive to the concerns of other MPs, I fully intend to continue and take this amendment to a vote on the 8 November.
Afriyie’s article clearly signals that he is prepared to withdraw his amendment if it finds little support among his Conservative colleagues.
It was never going to be popular to break with the conventional wisdom. But I truly believe it’s in our national interest to hold an early plebiscite.
The only result of Adam Afriyie’s and Nick Clegg’s interventions is likely to be further delays and complications.
