Cllr Duncan Goodfellow complains Lord Hunt’s message to the association “could be seen as seeking to fetter the independent and impartial decision of members”.
Apparently aware of the potential controversy, the Party Board has appointed Lord Hunt to supervise the ballot in East Staffordshire next week.
Grassroots Conservative members passed their verdict in Beaconsfield and in East Staffordshire, though for very different reasons.
Several Ministers helped to see off the Government’s best hope of avoiding a full-on crisis in the Party – and perhaps of saving Brexit too.
“Not enough senior women”…” “Not enough interested women”… “All the good ones have been snapped up”… “We already have one”… “No vacancies”…
The Chancellor pretended to be bold when he was actually being cautious.
