Cllr Will Sweet won last night’s candidate selection in Putney (Conservative majority: 1,554), the seat vacated by Justine Greening.
Born and bred in Wandsworth, Sweet sits on Wandsworth Borough Council, where he is also Cabinet member for Education and Children’s Services. He is a civil servant, and has spent the last six years working on policy for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
He evidently delivered a convincing performance at the selection meeting – despite strong competition for the nomination, Sweet won on the first round of the ballot, meaning he must have secured an outright majority of the vote.
Congratulations to him, and commiserations to those he defeated.
