Dominic Raab has declared that he is now backing Boris Johnson in the Conservative leadership contest.
Raab tells the Evening Standard we need a Prime Minister who will guarantee that we leave the EU on October 31st:
“The only candidate who will now do this is Boris Johnson — and so I’ll be supporting him to become our next Prime Minister.
“We must leave the EU on October 31 — we’ve had enough delays and we need to get on with it so we can deliver on the task the British people gave us as politicians.”
“Boris will make sure we leave the EU on time and move on to uniting the country behind a positive programme where everyone can benefit from the UK’s success.”
An important boost for Johnson. Raab won 30 votes yesterday. While he can’t mandate his supporters to follow him it is likely that most will come to the same conclusion.
