Summer is boring – at least if you are a football fan. The exception being when there is a World Cup or European Championships on. We were lucky this year, however, with the England Women senior team finishing third in the World Cup. I’d love to start a Bluebirds women’s football team; let me know if you are interested.

Thankfully, we have some relief on Monday nights during the summer, and get to play five-a-side. Imagine it, balmy summer evenings playing football in cages in Vauxhall. It’s better than it sounds, and very competitive.
After a stuttering start – four defeats – we turned it around and have won the last ten games of our season. Our final game of the season was on Monday night and, after beating the league champions 7-3, we have been promoted to the first division. So, fingers crossed for next season!
Of course, our thanks go to ConservativeHome. We’re always grateful for the support of the site.

I’ve been on a recruitment drive through the summer. The rate of change has been greater than a Spurs transfer window. We’ve signed up eleven new players. Regrettably, some long-standing members of the team have had to scale back their involvement, which necessitated our transfer window activity.
Most of the new signings are from the Commons, bringing a much needed injection of youth into an ageing squad. We have a special signing to announce soon, which will also bring some experience to the squad.

Our new eleven-a-side season starts in September. We had a pretty decent season last year, finishing mid-table. We have the squad to finish much higher up the league and that will be our intention this year. We aim to get promotion and have a couple of good cup runs. On our day, we can match up to the best South London has to offer. Consistency is crucial, and getting a good team playing week in, week out.

Despite the large number of signings we have made over the summer, we still want more. If you are interested, email afcbluebirds@gmail.com and I’ll give you details of our next training session.

As a Manchester United fan, I’m looking forward to the new season quite a lot. This site’s former editor is a big fan as well. Though Mr Van Gaal has brought in a lot of new faces, I can’t help thinking we need another match-winner in the squad. Perhaps this chap?
The current editor would probably not be happy unless I mention Wycombe Wanderers. They’ve been quite active in the transfer market, allowing players such as Matt McClure to depart, and bringing in veterans like Garry Thompson from Notts County. They’ve even signed up Danny Rowe, who had three loan spells with the team.
