Congratulations to Suella Fernandes who has been selected by Fareham Conservatives to be their candidate for the General Election.
A Harrow-born barrister Suella stood against Keith Vaz in Leicester East in 2005. She is a co-founder, former chair and now trustee of the Africa Justice Foundation (about which she has written for ConHome), and a co-founder of the Michaela Community School, a free school in Brent. She was a finalist in Uxbridge, Bexhill and Battle, Braintree and Croydon South.
Paul Goodman tweets that Suella’s selection means nine of the 27 new candidates for “safe” Conservative seats are women – so exactly a third.
Commiserations to the others on what was an impressive shortlist. Jeremy Quin came second, Cllr Donna Jones third and Nick Rose fourth.
