- Guido Fawkes today cited a figure of 97 seats within the UK without a candidate – 79 if Northern Ireland is subtracted.
- He cited and linked to the original research by Peter Botting and Anthony Gearing.
- As I wrote this morning, Downing Street and CCHQ’s gaze is fixed on the 40/40. One source I spoke to said that number of seats without a candidate “is very high for this point in the cycle”.
- The seats I list above are as recently given to the Party Board.
Midnight update: A senior Conservative source said: “Since the Board papers went out, we’ve also selected Ashfield, Bishop Auckland and Copeland – and we’re selecting Charnwood tonight.”
