Number 10 has just announced that the Queen has approved knighthoods for two Conservative MPs: John Randall and Greg Knight.

Both are former Government Whips: Randall was the Conservative Deputy Chief Whip, and served in the Conservative Whips’ Office since 2000, and Knight had been Senior Whip since September last year.

Both left their jobs in the recent reshuffle, so the honours could be seen as a thank you for their service – and/or as an encouragement to their colleagues to take up jobs in the Whips’ Office in future, given the recent reluctance of many to accept them when offered.
