CCHQ says that attendance at last year’s Party Conference was up, and it makes efforts made to point members towards cheaper accommodation. But Birmingham and Manchester are especially costly venues for less well-off party members. The habit of recent years should be broken, and the conference should return to cheaper ones.
Debates with binding votes have rightly been given the thumbs-down by Party member readers of this site. But there is scope to build on the timetabled discussions that already take place in private at conference without the media present. 67 per cent of our party member readers backed this option. It is a sign of life when a healthy party debates policy: if you doubt it, just ask any of our sister parties abroad. What happens at the moment would earn a sick note from the doctor, or something worse.
