Welcome aboard to Cllr Colin White of Audenshaw Ward on Tameside Council who has defected from Labour to the Conservatives.

Cllr White says:

“I agree with the Conservative-led Government’s welfare reforms to always make work pay. We have for far too long had a complicated system and it needed simplifying, something Labour has failed to do. Hard decisions have been made by this Government, but we are now starting to see the rewards; the economy is growing to a sustainable level, unemployment is falling, businesses are growing and crime is reducing.

“The only way for this to continue is with a Conservative government. This is why I have decided to become a member of the Conservative Party; I know the country is safe in their hands.”

Cllr White added that he is against the imposed Council Tax increase agreed by the Tameside Labour group.

Cllr John Bell, leader of the Conservative Group, on Tameside Council, said he is delighted to welcome Cllr White to the fold and hoped other disillusioned Labour councillors would follow his path:

“I know he has been unhappy with the Labour Party on the Council for some time. There are other councillors in the local Labour Party that are disaffected with the way Tameside is going and we would welcome them to come join Colin, myself and the other Conservative councillors in giving a strong voice to local residents’ concerns in the Council chamber.”
