A victory for transparency in local government. Cllr Roddie McCuish, the SNP leader of Angus and Bute Council, has announced on the BBC Radio 4's World at One that the council is lifting the ban on school girl Martha Payne photographing her school dinners for her blog. (On her blog she does not call herself Martha but Veg which stands for Veritus Ex Gusto. Boris would approve.)
Good for Cllr McCuish.
But why did the council come up with the proposal for this crass censorship in the first place? Apparently the Daily Record ran an article with the message "Time to fire the dinner ladies" – although I can't find it online. Did the trade unions object? Then did the council bullies decide it was easier to pick on a nine-year-old girl than pick a fight with a newspaper?
