Cllr Colin Barrow is standing down as leader of Westminster City Council.

He says:

"I made this decision not to seek re-election for a second term last Summer but I didn't want to announce it then and to leave my successor with the parking charges issue at the top of their inbox as they started their term.

"To make my decision public now allows a proper process to find my successor which had always been my intention.

"I am very lucky to have experienced the sharp end of business and politics but I will be 60 this year and I decided some months ago that I wanted to devote more time to other areas of my life.

"I intend to use some of my time to write and teach."

Colin hs done an outstanding job in leading a council with the jointly lowest Council Tax in the country, excellent services and very much at the cutting edge in radical, localist ideas for reducing welfare dependency.
