Cllr Alan Weeks, of Hampshire County Council, has defected from the Lib Dems to the Green Party. I would guess the Green Party would be disappointed with net gains of just 14 councillors in this years elections – although crucially they did include 10 gains in Brighton & Hove allowing them to take power in their first council. I suspect the Greens will also be disappointed by failing to attract more defectors from the Lib Dems.
There are plenty of left wing Lib Dem councillors whose anti establishment, anti business, credentials would make them a natural fit for the Green Party. The difficulty for the Green Party is that the closer people look into them the more their extremist nature becomes apparent – threatening toxic Council Tax rises.
