As we follow the local election results that come in on Thursday night and Friday morning, it's worth remembering that the media – and broadcasters in particular – will be comparing the party's national vote shares with the figures from last year's local elections rather than the general election.

And those local election figures last year were:

  • Conservatives – 35%
  • Labour – 27%
  • Lib Dems – 26%

(The general election percentages were 36%, 29% and 23%)
