Lewes District Council has all the seats up for election on May 5. At present it is a Lib Dem council with 23 lib Dem councillors and 17 Conservatives. In the past the Lib Dems have been sustained by tactical voting from Labour (and some Green Party) supporters to defeat the Conservatives. But this year there is the obvious expectation that this factor will "unwind." Some of the voters were interviewed on the Radio 4 Today programme yesterday.
The Green Party are fielding lots of candidates. The Lib Dems locally are typically dishonest. At 13.96 days a year the council has one of the highest sickness absence rates in the country and it sets an exceptionally high Council Tax precept.
