There has been much noisy protest about Council workers "losing their jobs" due to "Tory cuts." Many would assume from vehemence of some media reports that compulsory redundancies are widespread or even the norm.
But a survey of Council job losses offers a more realistic picture. It says:
“In nearly all of the councils and public bodies the 90 day statutory consultation period on how to deal with these job losses has been completed. Most councils have acheived cuts in posts by deleting vacant posts and accepting volunteers for early retirements and redundancy.”
Those words come from a GMB press release.
