Scottish Conservatives want any future Council Tax increase above inflation by any Council to be agreed by local people in a local referendum.
The call comes as the Conservative Group on Dundee Council is moving an amendment on the budget that would band D council tax in that area fall by £7.
Speaking in the Scottish Parliament Chamber, Alex Johnstone, Scottish Conservative MSP for North East Scotland, said:
I pay tribute to my good friend Councillor Donald Hay who, this very afternoon, is moving a Conservative amendment to the budget for Dundee City Council that would see bills for band D council tax payers
falling by £7. I challenge John Swinney to congratulate Councillor Hay on his action and to give his backing to that groundbreaking initiative, and I encourage the SNP group on Dundee City Council to
vote for it.
