The Daily Mail reports asurvey by the Taxpayers Alliance into the cost for councils of getting new logos. Freedom of Information Act requests were sent to 358 councils. Of the 300 responses there were 70 that had spent money on new logos, slogans or vision statements in the past three years. The total cost of £1.66 million. It would probably be well over £2 million if all councils were included.
Wiltshire County Council, spent £475,000 on rebranding and were the biggest spender. Oldham Council spent £255,000 - including paying design consultancy Hemisphere £161,000. There were embarrassed that the giant O logo they had before looked like a polo mint. Quite so. But when my council ditched its old logo – which looked like a squashed lozenge – the replacement only cost £5,000.
Emma Boon of the Taxpayers’ Alliance said:
‘This level of spending on logos shows shocking vanity.’
