Further to my reports in the last week about Gloucestershire and South Oxfordshire planning to reduc their number of councillors, it has been pointed out that I missed as similar proposal from Telford and Wrekin last month.
It's Conservative leader, Cllr Andrew Eade, says:
"Nothing is sacred and it is only right that at a time when we are asking the council to reduce staff costs, councillors should also take their share of savings."
Good for him. As with councillors allowances and office space for councillors and political advisors, it is not just the sums involved but the moral authority it gives to a council leader in demanding savings elsewhere. There does seem to be a pattern emerging.
