Freedom of Information requests from Itsmyclaim.com show that on average each unitary or county Council is paying out £883,000 a year to people who have tripped on broken paving stones. The total comes to over £100 million. But the company, which specialises in lowering the cost of claims, estimates that for the real cost to Town Halls you should add another nought on the end because of the huge legal bills involved.
