Disappointing news in Bradford where Labour has taken charge with a minority administration. They have 39 councillors, the Conservatives, 32 and the Lib Dems, 14. But the Lib Dems abstained on the vote for Council leader and thus allowed Labour to gain power. There was previously a minority Conservative administration. It was an innovative council – although the Council Chamber arithmetic meant it was forced to compromise on some of its proposals – including plans for a Council Tax freeze. Former Council leaders include Eric Pickles and Dame Margaret Eaton.
