Sunderland Conservatives, currently with 22 councillors on Sunderland Council, have launched their local election campaign which they hope will see Labour lose control of the Council when a third of the seats come up for election. The Conservatives' radical proposals include a 10% Council Tax cut for pensioners – and a freeze for everyone else.
Other campaign themes for the Sunderland Conservatives are:
- "Restore Sunderland’s proud reputation for enterprise, skills and self reliance"
- "Inspire pupils to fulfil their potential with more achieving five or more A* to C grades at GCSE"
- "Encourage families to live in Sunderland by building thousands of affordable homes to buy and rent"
- "Kick start the regeneration of the City Centre and Port to create thousands of new jobs"
