Officially Lib Dem Islington Council is claiming to be freezing the Council Tax but the reality is most people in the borough will face higher bills.
In the words of an independently minded Lib-Dem councillor, Cllr Andrew Cornwell at the Budget meeting:
"You may think you are voting for a Council Tax freeze but 43,000 households have been enjoying the £20 direct debit discount.
"By removing that scheme, we are putting up Council Tax for more than 40,000 families. For most people in Islington, this won't be a Council Tax freeze."
Cllr Cornwell is on the money – not for the first time.
