Last night Conservative controlled Harrogate Council passed a freeze in Council Tax.

Not only that they paid off £2 million of debt last year and a further £3 million will be paid off next year as part of the budget. After being left with a crippling £20 million of debt by the Lib Dems in 2003 after 13 years of Lib Dem rule in just another three years they will have paid off every penny of that debt.

The Council's finances have been helped by a VAT rebate but they have also found an £700,000 efficiency savings for this year.
