Very good piece in the Sunday Express yesterday under the robust headline: "Robber Brown's Council Tax Lies." It concerns that Council tax revaluation and the army of inspectors who will punish those in "nice neighbourhoods" with pleasant views of who have undertaken home improvements. The timing of all this is very convenient, it is due to take place in June just after the General Election. We know because an advertisement for firms to tender to run the database says the contract starts on June 1st. Under EU law the tender, for a three-year-contract worth £2 million.

Shadow Communities Secretary Caroline Spelman says:

“Labour ministers have been caught red-handed secretly preparing for a council tax revaluation in 2010.This is a tax bombshell, timed to go off after the General Election.”

Previously Labour has denied plans for a "revaluation by stealth."
