Cllr Zafar Iqbal-Din has joined the Conservative Group on Calderdale Council. A former Labour councillor, he became an independent when accused of money laundering – an allegation of which he has been cleared.
Given the presumption of innocence, those past allegations should not be held against him. If the Labour Group did not want him back despite this, then it does suggest some wider falling out. But what is the political basis for the switching to the Conservatives? I will drop him an email inviting him to write a piece for us outlining his views.
