Labour-run Copeland Council, which has the third lowest public satisfaction ratings in the country, has called in Government inspectors. The Council leader Cllr Elaine Woodburn admits the budget is "unsustainable" but has refused to resign saying it is "a collective responsibility."
The Conservative Group leader Cllr David Moore says that calling in the inspectors is an "indictment." The Conservative Group Deputy Leader Cllr Alistair Norwood says: “This council is dysfunctional. What’s happening makes me embarrassed to be a councillor for Copeland. These people are being brought in to
make sure the people of Copeland get the services they deserve, evidently because we haven’t been able to provide them.”
