The Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies has announced that his Council is pulling out of such "talking shops" as the Local Government Association and the Local Government Information Unit to achieve savings of £200,000 a year.
He is also looking at selling the £32 million Keepmoat Stadium – which the Council has managed to run at a loss of £2 million in its first two years. Other initiatives so far include cutting the number of councillors, his own salary and twinning arrangements with Communist China.
