Peter Davies is the new Mayor of Doncaster. He stood on an English Democrats ticket. He's a former RE teacher and father of the non-conformist Tory MP for Shipley, Philip Davies.
The BBC has chosen to headline on the new mayor's opposition to Doncaster's Gay Pride festival:
The Yorkshire Post gives us a sampling of his other policies:
- He campaigned "on reducing the mayor's salary from £62,000 to £30,000 and cutting the number of Doncaster councillors from 63 to 21."
- An end to translation services for immigrants.
- Scrapping of taxpayer-funded "non-jobs".
- A pledge to cut the council tax by "cutting extortionate levels of bureaucracy".
It seems like a TaxPayers' Alliance manifesto to me.
