Further to an earlier report comes news of more Councils leaving the Local Government Association. Many are London boroughs. While Bromley left some time ago, Kingston left in April and Sutton and Barnet have both served notice to quit next year.
The Local Government Chronicle reports that they are being joined by Croydon. Also some Councils outside London are cancelling their subs. North Somerset have already left. Slough are among the eight Councils to have served notice as well as East Hampshire and Kings Lynn and West Norfolk. While Wiltshire have claimed as a new authority they can leave without giving notice.
The Chronicle also discloses that Cllr Peter Jones, thhe Conservative leader of East Sussex is planning to challenge Cllr David Shakespeare as leader of the Conservative Group on the LGA.
