A Freedom of Information (FoI) request submitted by Tottenham Conservatives has disclosed the massive and expensive extent to which Labour-run Haringey is relying upon communications experts to spin the
bad news about the failing council.

The recently disclosed information reveals that Haringey’s Communication and Consultation Unit costs over £1.1 million and employs 28 people. A further seven people are employed as ‘Management Consultants’ (who are hired temporarily to provide the council with advice, often on large projects) at a cost of £481,000.

Sean Sullivan, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Tottenham commented, “This makes for depressing reading. The more useless and incompetent our council becomes the more money Labour spends on spinning that bad news to local residents. We all desperately want to see our council to improve, Labour can make a start by slashing their PR budget and transferring the savings to local services.”

Figures obtained from the TaxPayers’ Alliance show that spending on publicity in Haringey has increased by over 300% in the last 10 years.
