The National Pest Technician Association’s annual National Rodent Survey is out. It records that Councils reported 378,000 call outs for rat infestations for 2007/08 – 15% rise in the previous year. The Association blame the decline of weekly bin collections – abandoned by 166 Councils.
The Local Government Association say it’s the mild winter we had last year. They add that there "is absolutely no evidence why alternate weekly bin collections should lead to an increase in rats and mice."
