Leeds Council have denied a couple the chance to adopt because they are too fat. Ruling couples out on this basis is letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Rather like the argument about smoking, all else being equal it is better to place a child for adoption with a couple who don’t smoke and are not overweight. But instead we have a scenerio where a child in Leeds will be brought up in care system missing the chance to become part of a loving family.
Nick Rushton: Councils’ funding gap must be faced by the new Prime Minister – or we risk suffering at the ballot box.
