I’ve written a piece for The Guardian’s website about the ill judged proposal from Thames Water to spend £2.5 billion on a super sewer under the River Thames. I suggest that there could be more cost effective ways to clean the river and greater environmental priorities to justify spending on that scale. The scheme is being driven not by ecological merit but by the Government typically craven to a Euro directive. Now there a loads of comments over at The Guardian misrepresenting my case as being in favour of pollution. Typical Guardian readers. Take it on the chin, etc.
But what I have discovered since writing the piece is that the Mayor of London Boris Johnson is backing the proposal. I very much hope he will have another look at it and think again.
