Ealing Tory councillor Phil Taylor has an excellent blog not just with matters of keen interest to his own residents but also has a wider Boris Watching brief. He exposes how BBC coverage of Boris’s transport plans was cravenly copying a Labour press release.
The BBC also confused millions with billions. This is a wider problem. We keep keen track of our own money but some of us let our eyes glaze over when the Government is spending it. I find this when criticising the £2.5 billion cost of the proposed Thames Water super sewer under the Rover Thames. Defenders of the scheme don’t really seem interested in whether its £250 million, £2.5 billion, £25 billion – or of what comparative costs and benefits of alternative environmental projects would be. If the BBC don’t know the difference between a million and a billion what hope is there of any rigour?
