Stoke on Trent is to lose its elected mayor after a referendum result declared today.
Voting was 21,231 to 14,592 to replace the post with a council leader and Cabinet, in line with most other authorities.
Stoke’s Mayor, Labour’s Mark Meredith will serve out the rest of his term until next spring.
