Two gains for the Tories in yesterday’s local by-elections.  One from Labour in David Cameron’s old stomping ground of Stafford – now being contested by the excellent Jeremy Lefroy.  Another gain from the LibDems in SW Wilts.

  • Cranbrook – Redbridge LBC (Ilford South) – Con hold.  Con vote 60% + 8%, Lab 27% -5%, LD 12% -5%.  BNP got 37 votes
  • Wigan West – Wigan MBC (Wigan) – Lab hold. Con 25 +5, Lab 38 -9, LD 16 from 0, BNP 9 from 0, Others 11 from 0.
  • Barton – Canterbury DC (Canterbury) – LD hold. Con 37 +4, Lab 0 from 9, LD 52 +9, Others 12 -4.
  • Bury – Chichester DC (Arundel and South Downs) – Con hold.  Con 69 +14, LD 31 from 0, Ind 0 from 45.
  • Bradwell South and Hopton – Great Yarmouth DC (Great Yarmouth) – Con hold.  Con 50 -16, Lab 34 no change, UKIP 16 from 0.
  • Common – Stafford DC (Stafford) – Con gain from Lab.  Con 40 +3, Lab 30 -26, LD 14 from 0, Others 15 from 0.
  • Trowbridge Central – West Wilts DC (SW Wilts) – Con gain from LD. Con 56 +23, LD 44 +3, Ind 0 from 26.
  • Risca West – Caerphilly (Islwyn) Lab hold. Con 12 -11, Lab 56 +6, LD 4 from 0, Plaid 28 from 27.
  • Aberystwyth Rheidol – Ceredigion (Ceredigion).  Plaid gain from LD.  Con 3 -3, Lab 5 from0, LD 38 -30, Ind 15 from 0, Plaid 40 +13.
