The theory I mooted the other day about Diane Abbott running for Labour leader as a dry-run for her party's London Mayoral nomination has been comprehensively shot down.
The reason being, that the contests will run concurrently.
Labour's timetable for choosing a London Mayoral candidate is, according to the Press Association, as follows:
- Nominations open – now
- Deadline for nominations – June 18
- Shortlisting of candidates by panel – June 24
- Result announced – September 22
