Grant Shapps has, quite rightly, urged Conservative Party Members to show their respect for Margaret Thatcher by lining the procession route on Wednesday. Dan Hannan, perhaps more eloquently, has done the same on his Telegraph blog. What the Conservative Party hasn’t seen fit to do is to provide anywhere for the ‘poor bloody infantry’ without funeral tickets to go during and after the Funeral Service.
That’s where we’ve stepped in. The Freedom Association, in conjunction with the Bow Group, has organised a Tribute to a Great Prime Minister event during and after the service on Wednesday. From 11.00 am, Thatcher supporters are invited to watch the service live on TV, in our pub venue near St. Paul’s Cathedral. As soon as the service is over, we’ll be laying on a succession of guest speakers, led by Dan Hannan himself, but also including Steve Baker MP, Nirj Deva MEP, Councillor Donna Edmunds, Councillor JP Floru, Mark Littlewood, Councillor Paul Osborn, Matthew Sinclair, Ewen Stewart, Gawain Towler and Mark Wallace. We’ll be adding many more names and there’ll be a rolling programme of speakers running right through to 6.00 pm.
Admission to this event is free and open to all supporters of Margaret Thatcher. It’s going to be a memorable afternoon celebrating the life and achievements of a great Prime Minister. As you can imagine, it is already proving immensely popular, so, if you would like to attend, please email me at Simon@TFA.net - if you would like to be added to the guest list and given full details of the event. To confirm your place, you may be asked to provide proof that you are a Conservative and/or a genuine Thatcher supporter.
