Sweet consolation for Heidi Allen after the horrendous mix-up over the South-East Cambridgeshire selection – which arguably deprived her of the chance to contest the seat as Conservative candidate next May.
News reaches us that she was selected earlier today as the candidate for South Cambridgeshire – replacing Andrew Lansley, who is standing down. Cllr Allen apparently won on the first ballot, defeating Cllr Jo Churchill, Charlotte Vere and Helen Whately in an all-women final.
Congratulations to Cllr Allen, who clearly has a certain Cambridgeshire appeal. Reporting earlier on the selection, Mark Wallace wrote:
“A Councillor in St Alban’s, Allen is Managing Director of the family manufacturing business. Born in Yorkshire, she studied Astrophysics at University College London before going on to work as an operations manager in organisations as diverse as Royal Mail, Tubelines, Esso and Churchill Insurance Group.”
