The Clacton Gazette reports that two candidates have been shortlisted for tomorrow’s caucus, when an open meeting will select the Conservative challenger to Douglas Carswell.
Both have local links, which is probably wise – here they are:
- Cllr Giles Watling is an actor and theatre director, whose most prominent role was as Oswald in the 1980s sitcom Bread. He and his family live in Frinton, in the constituency, and he has been a Tendring District Councillor since 2007. His hobbies include sailing and fundraising to give opportunities for disabled children to sail.
- Cllr Sue Lissimore works in her family electrician business in Colchester, where she also sits on Colchester Borough and Essex County Councils. She went to school in Clacton, and in her spare time is a trustee of a community centre and supporter of Westlands Country Park.
The caucus meeting will take place tomorrow night, and is open to all registered voters in the constituency – to register to attend, click here.
